How to Read the QR Tag Codes on Your Offers

QR codes can be used for a lot of things – website links, coupons, tickets, and contact information, just to name a few – and scanning them using your smartphone couldn’t be easier.

iOS Smartphones

If you have a more current iPhone or iPad, Apple has built QR Code recognition directly into its camera app. This means all you need to do is open it up and point the camera at the code in question (as if you are going to take a photo of it).

A notification will appear on  your screen once your iOS device recognizes what it’s looking at (which generally takes less than a couple of seconds), prompting you to tap on the link. Once you tap the link, you’ll be taken to the desired location, usually within the Safari web browser.

This works on all iPhone and iPad devices running iOS 11, and we fully expect Apple to retain the QR code scanning feature in iOS 12, which will be available in late 2018.

If you don’t fancy using your camera to read QR codes, you can also head to the App Store where you’ll find a wide selection of FREE QR code reading applications.

Android Smartphones

Most Android phones also come with a built in tag reader. Try the methods shown above under iOS Smartphones using your camera. If that doesn’t work, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Play Store on your Android.
  2. Type QR code reader into the search box and tap the search button. This displays a list of QR code reading apps.
  3. Tap QR Code Reader developed by Scan (this is FREE).
  4. Tap Install.
  5. Tap Accept.
  6. Open QR Code Reader.
  7. Line up the QR code in the camera frame.
  8. Tap OK to open the website.

Simple as all that! If you have any questions about using the tag reader to read QR codes on our print offers, please contact us at
